Kokeshi are simple wooden dolls that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children. Japanese dolls, originally from the northeastern region (Tōhoku-chihō) of Japan. Kokeshi doll making is now widely considered to be a Japanese art form that requires a trained and skilled artisan to produce high-quality Kokeshi dolls. They are treasured as a good luck charm. Opinions vary greatly regarding the meaning of kokeshi dolls and their spiritual significance. Most interpretations are centered around children, with some believing that kokeshi represent the wish for a healthy child.

On the main picture: 1st on the left: A creative kokeshi doll signed by master Aoki Ryoka.
