Splendid and Unique Japanese Black Raku Chawan, Kuro-Raku Matcha tea bowl Hand-painted Fujisan Fujiyama Mt-Fuji under the Moon.

A beautiful present for Japanese tea ceremony lovers, for studio pottery collectors, nostalgic of Mt Fuji, etc.

This bowl has good size for a large use: teacup, soup bowl, rice bowl, ramen bowl...or to display and enjoy this fabulous design.

This large chawan is handmade, hand-painted with a lovely design of the Mt fuji and a surprising moon over the rim of the bowl, a small detail that makes this work a highly decorative object. A mark by the potter is stamped on the bottom, it's an Mt fuji mark Raku bowls present tea like no other vessel.

When filled with the verdant color of whipped matcha, the contrast with black transforms the bowl into a contemplative piece reminiscent of a quiet Zen garden.

Raku (raku-yaki) is a low-heat ceramic first produced by Sasaki Chojirō in the 16th century in Kyoto. Under the encouragement and patronage of his close friend, tea master Sen no Rikyū, he designed a bowl-style devoid of any decoration or sense of movement. They were designed to embody Rikyū's wabi-cha philosophy. That is a tea ceremony in which the emphasis is on simplicity, austerity, and quiet appreciation.

Although the designation "Raku" is reserved for works made by Chojirō and his successors, the name is used by some contemporary Japanese potters who adhere to the same forming, glazing, and firing techniques. This chawan was performed by one of them.
