Rare Japanese hand-painted Kiyomizu Chawan by famous potter Asami Yoshizo IV 浅見与し三 ( born in Gojozaka in Kyoto 1960). Stored in its signed tomobako wooden box.

This chawan will quickly become a masterpiece for any collector of pottery or any object relating to this now universal holiday which is Christmas.

A perfect unique gift idea. A magnificent special Christmas chawan, with this wonderful Santa painted by hand, pulling a reindeer and riding a sled and this wow decorated Christmas tree inside.

The intrusive scenery is beautiful and promising and illuminated by this rust-enamelled mouth and by the contrast of the glaze in elegant and delicate colors with the bright and shimmering colors of the drawing.

Asami Yoshizo IV short biography: He comes out of a long lineage of pottery artists, his grandfather (1912) was the second son of Asami Gorosuke II, and the first gen. of the family kiln After the dead of his father he started to study under his uncle, together with his grandfather and Kiyomizu Rokubei VI.

He became head of the family-kiln after the dead of his uncle. He received the kiln name, “Yoshimine-gama”, from the old priest of Zuiho-in at Daitoku-ji temple, Shodo MAEDA. Kyo or Kiyomizu pottery is a symbol of Kyoto, and its history has continued for 400 years.

To serve the desire of Aristocrats, tea masters and culinary specialists of the era, Kyo or Kiyomizu pottery has incorporated design and artistry not only from Japan but also from China and the Korean Peninsula.

To succeed the intricate artwork and craftsmanship, each piece is made and decorated carefully by hand even till this day.
