The crane is a majestic bird that is a favorite subject in many Asian paintings. In Japan, the crane, or tsuru, is a national treasure. It is the symbol of longevity and good luck because it was thought to have a life span of a thousand years. In Japan as in other countries of East Asia, the crane is also seen as a harbinger of good fortune. The fact that it has become a symbol of marital bliss, longevity and fidelity is the result of close observation, as cranes make a pair for life and reinforce their bonds with dances.

A splendor for Japanese woodblock print lovers and collectors.
